Why we have fees:
Each year we coordinate the delivery of 5,000 portraits around the world. Aside from the delivery costs, there is also the salary of the full-time director and part-time assistant, the cost of the project's small one-room office, and miscellaneous costs like printing and postage. We also make occasional donations to support the kids' education. All of this combines to a total amount of money that the project needs to function each year.
To generate these funds we calculate the total budget needed for the year and divide it by the approximate number of art students who will participate. Currently that results in $15 per student.
